The League of Women Voters of Florida is an organization fully committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in principle and in practice. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities, and policy makers in creating a more perfect democracy.

Our organization services as a state chapter of the League of Women Voters (LWV), a nonpartisan political organization. The League of Women Voters operates on three tiers to effectively engage with voters and government at all levels.
LWV has Leagues in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Hong Kong. These provide essential support to national efforts, while at the same time advocating and educating on the state level to achieve a more inclusive, comprehensive reach. A group of women from Winter Haven, Winter Park, and St. Petersburg initiated the League of Women Voters Florida (LWVFL) in 1939.
LWV is a grassroots organization. Local Leagues support state Leagues while working locally to further increase participation and influence. We have 29 local Leagues statewide striving to promote engaged citizenship. Members hold candidate forums, issue Voter Guides to inform citizens on local races and ballot amendments, and sponsor public forums to encourage Florida voters and elected officials to broaden their understanding of key issues.
We have a proven track record of influencing public policy and prevailing thought on important issues. Here are some examples of what we’ve accomplished through our work.
Since inception, LWV and all of our chapters have remained nonpartisan, never endorsing or opposing particular political parties or candidates. This helps messages on issues and legislation remain above partisan politics. It also promotes inclusion for greater citizen involvement, and has allowed the League to develop a strong, trusted voice for its advocacy and education campaigns.
“Study and Action” is LWVFL’s guide to public policy positions, updated and published every two years. It provides information about the League’s positions and work on issues facing Floridians and Americans in the areas of government, education, justice, social policy, sustainability, and natural resources.
All League members are encouraged to participate in the study and action process, from the adoption of a study to achieving a consensus to its conclusion with action.
